To Osaka, Nankai Rapi:t (¥1,490, ~35 min to Namba) and the JR Kansai-Airport Rapid Service (¥1,190, ~65 min to Osaka Station) are the fastest direct rail options — no transfer either way. To Kyoto, HARUKA is the only one-seat train (tourist discount fare ¥2,200, ~75–80 min); everything else needs a change at Osaka or Shin-Osaka.   • Nankai Rapi:t is entirely reserved seating (Regular or Super Seat) — buy at the station or reserve online for a small discount (¥1,350 with the Kanku-Tokuwari Rapit ticket).
  • Skip Rapi:t's surcharge with the Nankai Airport Express if you're not in a hurry — same line, no reservation.
  • Flat-fare taxis quote the price by ward before you board, so there's no meter surprise; tolls and the late-night rate are already built into the flat fare shown.

  • The tourist-discount HARUKA one-way ticket requires a foreign passport and Temporary Visitor status — buy it via an overseas travel agency exchange order or JR-WEST Online Train Reservation, not at a station counter.
  • The ICOCA & HARUKA combo ticket ended September 30, 2023. A lot of older travel blogs still recommend it — it's no longer for sale. Buy the HARUKA ticket and an ICOCA card separately.
  • HARUKA also stops at Tennoji (¥1,300 tourist fare) and Shin-Osaka (¥1,800) if Kyoto isn't your only destination.

  • What's the cheapest way from KIX to Osaka?

    The Nankai Airport Express (~¥970 to Namba) or the JR Kansai-Airport Rapid Service (¥1,190 to Osaka Station) — both are regular trains with no reserved-seat surcharge, unlike Nankai Rapi:t.

  • HARUKA vs Nankai — which for Kyoto?

    HARUKA is the only direct, one-seat train to Kyoto. Nankai's Rapi:t and Airport Express only run to Namba (Osaka), so getting to Kyoto without HARUKA means an extra transfer at Osaka or Shin-Osaka.

  • Is the ICOCA & HARUKA combo ticket still worth it?

    It's not available to buy — JR West stopped selling it on September 30, 2023. Buy a discounted tourist HARUKA one-way ticket and an ICOCA card as two separate purchases instead.

  • What about late-night arrivals at KIX?
