The Oslob Whale Shark Watching experience takes place at Tan-awan barangay on Cebu's southern coast, where a small fleet of traditional paddleboats carries visitors just offshore to observe resident whale sharks in shallow, clear water. Before entering the water, every participant attends a mandatory briefing covering interaction rules — no touching, no flash photography, and maintaining a minimum distance from the animals per local guidelines. Groups of up to 12 board outrigger paddleboats and spend roughly 30 minutes watching or snorkeling alongside the sharks, which can reach 12 meters in length but are entirely filter feeders. The experience runs daily from early morning until early afternoon, with the earliest sessions typically offering the calmest seas and smallest crowds.
